Taiwan Video 05: Snake Alley - A Father's View

When my Dad visited Taiwan in 2007 I took him to Snake Alley, the famous night market in the Wen Hua distric of Taipei. Snake Alley is something to behold. Everything is for sale there and most things imaginable can be eaten there too. They have all kinds of reptiles and seafood in the restaurants. This is old Taipei at its best, really old. My Dad's thoughts are expressed in the video below.

If you ever visit Taipei, Snake Alley is a must, but not for the faint hearted. Enjoy the video!

Taiwan Video 04: Taipei Summer Dress

Last year I took Dad and Yvonne to the the Culture University at the top of the mountain that overlooks Taipei. We would then walk down the Tien-Mu trail, into Tien-Mu and have lunch. We went up by taxi, took in the view and relaxed.

When we went into the university this couple came passed us. This dress is typical in Taiwan in the summer! The guys all wear dark, long sleeve clothing and the girls, well take a look for yourself.

Taiwan Video 02: Worshipping in Longshan Temple

Last year I took Dad and Yvonne to the Longshan Temple in the Wenhua district of Taipei. We were there for quite some time just walking around and chatting with different people. Many of the folks there were very glad to introduce their religion to us and what they believed. They were very friendly indeed.

I decided to train the camera on one person in particular and follow her through some of the motions of how they worship in the temple here. These worship practices are very mystical for many people in the West. Here it is a way of life. There is about one minute of footage in the video is below.

Taiwan Video 01: The Making of 101

On the first day I came to Taiwan in 1998 I was alone and very confused. In the evening I found myself in the basement of the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi building and decided to go to the viewing deck. Since then I have always enjoyed seeing Taipei from the sky and have gone to the top of 101 many many times.

The movie below shows the building of 101. They show the movie in a small viewing room on the viewing deck. The movie is great and the 2007 fireworks awesome. I remember at the time there was much controversy since they allowed Sony to advertize their brand prominently on the side of the building but there was no mention of Taipei. Just business!

Anyway, enjoy the show and feel free to comment.

Taiwan Video 00: About the Taiwan Video Series

I will start posting some of our videos of scenes in Taiwan on www.durbanbay.com. The videos will mostly be between 30 to 60 seconds. These are random movies shot here and there. One day I will learn how to use video editing software and splice movies together to make them longer and more appealing. For now they will appear as stand alone very-short shorts! So enjoy.

The context for each video will be given so, if you are interested, you can read about where we took the video. If you hate reading, just watch the video.

As always, we look forward to your comments.
