One of Colombo's most famous hotels is the Galle Face Hotel that was established in 1864. It is located right on the shore of the beach in Colombo and is easily found. Friends had recommended to us that we go there, if only for a drink. We initially tried to book a night there but it was full. We went there at the end of our first day in Colombo and enjoyed a wonderful sunset after a really good afternoon tea buffet. The sunset was amazing and we enjoyed watching the sun go down over the Indian Ocean. I have seen a thousand sunrises on the Indian Ocean but I honestly think this was the first sunset I saw on the Indian Ocean: beautiful.
We got to the Galle Face Hotel after a fairly difficult day in Colombo. I was sick and Queenie was suffering a lot of culture shock. We had started the day in Pettah Market, went to the Gallery Cafe for Lunch, then went to one of the bigger temples in Colombo and after that walked past the South Beira Lake to the Galle Face Hotel. It was a hot and sticky day and, since I was sticky and Colombo was a very dusty city, it was a fairly uncomfortable day. We arrived at the Galle Face hotel late in the afternoon and were treated to a beautiful sunset.
After a a delicious tea time buffet we stepped out onto the front garden and enjoyed the sunset. You can see in the picture above we were much happier after the food. We just chilled out on the grass, relaxing and watched the sun drop below the ocean. It was a beautiful time. You can see the beautiful sunset in the video below.
As you can see from the video the sunset was amazingly beautiful. It was great to be there. One of the best views was seeing the sun through the sail of a small sailing vessel parked on the lawn.
If we lived in Colombo I can bet that this would be a regular spot for a sun downer. It was awesome. We were happy to have the privilege.
Nice post. I learn something totally new and challenging on sites I stumbleupon every day.
